Cllr MUZIWAKHE PHILEMON MTSHONYANE
I was born on the 23 February 1968. I attended my primary education at Sakhile Primary School and completed my Matric at Ratanda Secondary School.
I started to be involved in the struggle for liberation for our country in 1984. I was a member and activist of the congress of South African Student (COSAS) in 1986 COSAS banned and I was also detained at Modderbee prison. I was in detention without trial from 18 June 1986 to 02 July 1986. Then again on the 11thof July 1986 to August 1987 was detained under the state of emergency.
When the comrades and I were released we started to revive the student struggle by forming the Ratanda student congress (RASCO) which was under the South African student organization (SASO) the affiliate of united Democratic front (UDF). I was also a member of the Ratanda youth congress (RAYCO) under SAYCO also affiliated to umbrella body, the UDF. In 1989 I joined umKhonto Wesizwe underground during the 1992 violence of the IFP when it attacked residence. I was also active in forming self defence units in our area.
I was a volunteer during peace monitors and at joint operation centre Co Coordinator for peace patrols 1993 and a volunteer in 1994 in first democratic elections. On the 06 February 1995 I was integrated to South African National Defence Force and became a military police. I served 10 years in the force. In 2005 I became branch executive member of John Parkie branch of ANC. I was head of Mayihlome team for 2008, 2011 and BET Coordinator for the 2014 elections. I am also a member of the MKMVA. I became the ward councilor of ward one from 2011 till to date. I am the chairperson of May Matlala branch for two terms.
