Lesedi Local Municipality did their bit for Nelson Mandela Day celebration

Lesedi Local Municipality with Sedibeng District Municipality, in partnership with the Sedibeng FET College in Heidelberg, joined the rest of South Africa to perform their 67 minutes of community service to mark the 95th birthday of Nelson Mandela and also to celebrate the 15th Wedding Anniversary with Graca Machel.
This was followed by a host of activities at Shalom Children Ministries for abandoned children. Services rendered included donation of groceries, cleaning and painting of premises, laundry and general maintenance.
The Department of Social Services joined the event in educating the children at the Shalom Ministries on health care, issuing of birth certificates and access to child grants.
Later in the day, at a formal gathering, Executive Mayor of Lesedi Local Municipality Cllr. Lerato Maloka welcomed the guests and everyone and also lobbied the Lesedi Partners to join Lesedi Municipality in changing the lives of the people of Lesedi.
Guests and volunteers were also addressed by the Deputy Minister of Public Service and Administration, Ms Ayanda Dlodlo. In her speech she appealed to her audience to act on corrupt activities, as they are robbing the communities of their services. The occasion was marked by an announcement made by Dr.A.E. Mashele that another Sedibeng FET College will be opened at Evaton North. He also made mentioned of bursaries that the Sedibeng FET College is offering for students.
The Executive Mayor, Cllr. Mahole Mofokeng after the cutting of the 95th birthday cake, handed the cake over to the children of Shalom Ministries who deserved to be treated on the occasion of Madiba's birthday more than any others. Sedibeng District Municipality and Lesedi Local Municipality wishes Tata Madiba a speedy recovery and a happy 95th birthday!
